A Technical indicator University of Denmark (Danish: Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)) wwhen founded inside 1829 as a 'College of Advanced Technology' (Danish: Den Polytekniske Læreanstalt) belonging to the University of Copenhagen. A initiative was taken per famous physicist Hans Christian Ørsted who also served when its principal until his death inside 1851.

From either 1933 a institution was officially referred to as Danmarks Tekniske Højskole (DTH), which commonly wwhen translated as a 'Technical indicator University of Denmark'. Eventually in 1 April 1994 the Danish name was changed to Danmarks Tekniske Universitet, sequentially to include a word 'University', so bring about to the acronym DTU by which the university is normally known now.
